3 Steps to stop procrastinating

Hi all. I'm busy writing my book and this is an extract from one of the pages. Will be publishing the book later this year so enjoy the teaser :)
Why do we procrastinate?
As far as I am concerned this is by far the worst attribute of human nature and is has plagued me for as long as I can remember. I honestly believe that it is not just only an attribute but also a condition. Believe me, I have tried to get rid procrastinating about things and thoughts, only to find myself procrastinating about procrastination, followed by guilt.
Why do we then keep putting off impending tasks to a later date, sometimes waiting for the "last minute”?
One of the subconscious reasons why we delay stressful tasks is the absolute believe that we can work better under pressure. I absolutely disagree that most people work better under pressure. If you look at professional sport athletes, the opposite is true. Only professional athletes can deliver under pressure. The reason why is that pressure is usually directly aligned with a deadline or an action now.
By procrastinating and waiting for the last minute to attend to a task you are also assuming that your mental and physical state at that moment in the future will be conducive to solving the problem. What if you had the flu or you just got some bad news over the phone. Is your mind still clear for the task at hand and is your body capable of putting a couple of hard working hours together to solve this problem? So realize today that you don’t have control over your day to day health and that you may not be able to attend to that task at a future date in good mind, body and soul.
Remember, it is however more than normal for people to procrastinate to some degree and I must be honest in saying that sometimes I enjoy procrastination, especially with a whiskey in hand
How do we stop procrastinating?
  1. Stop believing that you are one of the few that can work better under pressure. You are not a professional athlete.
  2. Stop assuming that you will have better mental abilities at a later date. Embrace the fact that you can do it now.
  3. Realize that your physical condition plays a role in your ability to solve a problem. Don’t wait until the last minute.
